About Elk Grove

Elk Grove – The Perfect Retreat In the Location You’re Looking For

The idea for Elk Grove began after we started renting out Camp Can’t Keep Up in 2013. One of the things that we really felt would attract people was the location, close enough to Benezette, but far away enough that tenants would have some privacy. On Mother’s Day of 2016, we spotted a “For Sale” sign on Route 555 and we decided to investigate.

Right in the middle of Benezette, yikes! At first glance, this wasn’t an ideal location for another vacation rental. The more we toured the property, the more we fell in love. Despite being in the middle of downtown Benezette, this cottage, now named, “The Elk Grove” after the former owners, Walt and Donna Grove, sits at the end of a long gravel drive and is backed by wooded land that is home to many of the local elk herd.

In fact, the former owners told us stories about how “Fred,” the former town Bull, used to lay in their mulch bed under the bedroom windows! It is the perfect balance of close and far away; just one mile from Elk Country Visitor’s Center, guests are within walking distance to local attractions, but have enough space and seclusion that you aren’t looking at another cottage or cabin 10 yards away.

Elk Grove Reviews

A beautiful retreat in downtown Benezette!! Clean, comfortable and quiet.

We loved the convenient location of the house. Quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed the backyard fire pit. We saw a lot of Elk on the property as well as on the drive on Winslow Hill. I recommend this place to any who enjoy nature!!

Wonderful Weekend!!

Great location! You can walk across the street to ole bull cafe. Short walk to local winery and outside entertainment. You still feel like your camping in the woods. The back yard with fire pit is wooded. Viewed many elk in the yard and all through town. Elk center is a short drive up the road. The house was clean and had everything we needed.

Very Comfortable

We had a lovely two nights at this property, (October 6 and 7, 2016). Mattresses were all new, and comfortable. Everything you would need to cook was available in the kitchen. The property was very roomy and you felt like you were at home. The owners thought of everything. The decor was well thought out and everything looked brand new and freshly painted. This property was spotlessly clean, I would highly recommend. Close to everything. The visitor center is just up the hill. Food is available in walking distance at the Benezette Hotel and the Old Bull Cafe. Would recommend the wagon ride at the visitors center, well worth the price. We had our first elk visit while we were having dinner at the picnic table under the carport. A cow walked up and gave us a look over and watched us eat for a little while. We heard males bugling while we sat at the campfire. All in all a wonderful trip made better by this great rental.

Location, Location, Location

This well-taken-care-of cottage was perfect for our family. The location couldn’t have been better. Elk were literally in the front yard, including a beautiful bull elk. To hear them bugling was such a treat, too. We didn’t even need to leave the cottage. But it was so close to the visitor’s center and the Winslow Hill elk viewing are too–we saw so many more elk than on previous trips when we stayed at other properties. The cottage itself was a nice surprise–better than the photos. Everything looked new. The massage chair, ping pong table, and state game lands for hiking were great. The owners were very kind and helpful too. Very pleased with our stay. THANK YOU!!!

Christmas Vacation

The house was perfect! There was even a decorated Christmas tree in the living room that was lit before our arrival. Very thoughtful! No snow for snowmobiling, that we were hoping for, but we still had a great time! There is plenty of space and the ping pong table in the basement provided plenty of fun. The kitchen was very nice. We brought slow cookers for food and dishes, but we should not have brought a thing…everything we would have needed was there. The place was very clean and plenty of space. We did not get to see an elk in our yard, but found out they were only across the street when we left to go looking for them. We definitely recommend anyone to stay here that is looking for a nice get-a-way! We hope to be back ourselves soon!

Very clean and updated! Everything you could need. Felt like home!

Can’t wait to stay here again. It felt just like home and had everything we could need. Updated kitchen with great fridge and oven. The grill outside was an awesome plus. And the fire pit is beautiful, the grill over the fire pit was great for burgers. It was awesome being so close to everything but still secluded and private. Having 2 bathrooms was a must. And the kids loved the extra space downstairs and the ping pong table. All the bedrooms were roomy with plenty of closet/dress space. Loved that we had Wifi, and Dish network. The covered patio was huge! Plenty of space for everyone to still hang out outside when it rained. Great job with this vacation home!!
